projects / stuff
Sometimes some of the stuff I am working on is a little more involved than a tool or a quick software write. These are more involved projects, and I will do my best to post them. There are some older things from the site that I have reorganized on to this page, but now that I am at a supurb engineering school, I am getting more ideas, resources, and friends to help out with some pretty fun things.
Naturally, my largest and longest running project is D++. This programming language that I have written has it's own section of the site. You can check it out here.
wiegand protocol on card readers
11/1/07
Ever play with any security or access control hardware? Specifically, commercial RFID readers? If you have, you may have encountered a data format known as Wiegand, a common security protocol used because of it's simplicity and ability to run over very long cable lengths. I wanted to understand this protocol and create a device to convert it to standard serial over a COM port or USB so that I could use some RFID readers I have aquired.
dorm room kiosk
10/22/07
In my new dorm this year, I live in a 6 person apartment. We all have our own rooms, plus bathrooms and a common area. We all get along great, but sometimes we close our doors, or are on the other side of the apartment (it's pretty big). So I decided we should have some kind of central computer, or kiosk, where we could list our status and where we are, leave messages and annoucements for each other, and other cool things. And it's a pretty cool system, complete with a touch screen monitor. All source code included!
Older projects:
azure in japan 2004
8/31/04
In 2004, I travaled to Japan for a 1 month exchange program. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I'm doing everything I can to try and get back there. You can read a journal of my experiences there and check out some of the pictures that I took. Fun times!
unreal 2 music
12/12/03
I am a pretty big fan of all the Unreal games, especially the music. I was very sad when the music in Unreal 2 came as dynamically sectioned music, and there was no universal way to listen to this music as a single track. Luckily, I found a way to extract the components of each track, and assembled them into a normal MP3 file.
